The Suzuki Method |
Guitar For Kids Studio |
Who is "Mr. Joe" Beninghof? |
For nearly 10 years, Joe Beninghof has been using the Suzuki Method to teach children and teens to play the guitar. He has studied with Ricardo Iznaola at DU and Alan Spriestersbach at the Hartt School of Music. He has taken Suzuki guitar teacher training through Book 5, as well as the "Suzuki Teacher Practicum" and Teaching Note Reading, Parts I & II. |
By the time he sold his studio in Highlands Ranch, it had grown to nearly 50 students, ranging in age from 3 to 17, some of whom he had taken from Pre-Twinkle through Book 6. In his first 3 years of operation, he never lost a student. When he finally sold the studio last year, 3 of his first 5 students were still studying with him and several had won regional competitions for their playing. |
Joe believes in, and designs his studio around, the traditional Suzuki Method. His experience suggests that when this model is closely followed, success and fun with the guitar are unavoidable consequences of the process. As a result, he plays lots of games in lessons and uses frequent positive feedback to encourage kids to learn. He provides intensive and ongoing home coach training and communication. He also strongly encourages daily listening and practice, the maintenance of review repertoire, regular group class attendance and mutual respect within the Suzuki Triangle (student, home coach and teacher). |
