1. Call the studio for a list of available lesson slots and select a time that works best for you and your child. When we've received a deposit, we'll reserve that slot for your family.
  2. Buy a "Suzuki Guitar Book 1" CD and begin listening with your child immediately. The more they've heard the CD before their first lesson, the more successful they'll feel, right out of the blocks.
  3. Arrange to attend the next series of Home Coach Training sessions. These are 4, hour and a half, parent-only sessions, designed to teach you much of what you'll need to assure that your child succeeds. This includes:
    • just enough about how to play the guitar, yourself, to be dangerous, ;-)
    • the history of the Suzuki Method,
    • why the Method always works, when done right, and
    • your role in both lesson / group class settings and in the practice room at home.
Finally, please don't buy your child a guitar until we've spoken. A high quality instrument that fits like a glove (as with violins, student guitars are made in many different sizes) is critical to your child's feeling successful. Our experience suggests that kids' guitars bought at local retailers rarely meet either of these important criteria. At your first lesson, we'll fit your child for, and help you acquire a new, (or, if you prefer, and depending on availability, used) hand made, solid wood instrument, imported from Spain with a hard shell case, at a wholesale or better price. We can usually get one to you within the first week.
